Is it OK for a young Indian woman to leave home to grow as an individual?

Due to the amazingly popular thinking of some parents, that they 'own' their children, no matter how old they are, and their daughter in her 20's will always be their little girl, she is forced to decide whether to leave home. Is it right for her to look out for herself, whilst trying to implement those family values that they instilled in her, or should she stay at home just because they say so?
